Insurance & Payment overview:
A lot of people are wondering what might happen with acupuncture as insurance coverage issues change in our country. While it is true that acupuncture is not currently included in a “National” plan and is rarely recognized on a federal level, coverage for acupuncture is generally improving. With the 2007 National Health Interview Survey revealing that over 3 million adults in the United States used acupuncture in the previous year, more insurance companies and politicians over the last decade have been recognizing the importance of including acupuncture is medical care discussions.
Whatever happens in the National arena, insurance expenses do seem to increase annually. It is ironic that as the cost of insurance increases, the number of medical treatments that insurance does NOT cover also increases. The only good thing about this is that the high cost of out of pocket procedures makes the low cost of acupuncture a lot more attractive as an option to those who have never tried it.
Of course, here at Westside Family Acupuncture, we continue to welcome patients paying through insurance coverage and we honor whatever an individual’s policy demands so long as it covers acupuncture and the office visit. However, there is always the option (especially for those who do not have insurance or for those who do not wish to use their insurance) to pay for acupuncture on the day of treatment for a flat, discounted fee.
If we do not have to send a bill to a patient, an insurance company, an auto case or a workman’s compensation case, the most we will charge even a new patient for acupuncture and an office visit is $100. We save money when we are paid upfront and, therefore, you save too.
