Healthy Hint – Catching a Cold?

Healthy Hint – Catching A Cold?
A cold often begins with a day of itchy throat that progresses to swollen throat and onto runny nose, coughs, sneezes and other typical cold symptoms. A cold can be over in just a few days or hang on for longer than a week. Wash your hands often and try not to touch your face if you want to avoid catching what is going around.

If you happen to ‘catch a cold’ and the mucous makes it hard to breathe, it is almost always better to use an expectorant over a decongestant. An expectorant will help to loosen and release the mucous. A decongestant tends to dry up the infected mucous, leaving it inside your body to keep you sick.

Please call for an appointment if you end up in any pain or if it just isn’t draining. Sinus pressure can build up in the face, head and neck and acupuncture can release that pressure almost immediately.

Keep in mind, whether you need an appointment or not, that a cold should be treated by always drinking lots of water or warm herbal tea. (We have really good medicinal teas here as well.) Dehydration is a serious problem than can result from such a virus. And do get some rest, especially during the first few days.
